Classic of the Month

from our Zeithaus Collection

We will present a classic from our Zeithaus collection regularly, which in terms of technology, design or production method served as a model for subsequent generations of vehicles in one way or another and which is also celebrating an anniversary this year.

Kohlruss Beetle

The “Kohlruss Beetle” is actually several vehicles in one, as the Viennese master coachbuilder Hans Kohlruss used multiple component carriers to create this luxuriously equipped Beetle. The Zeithaus example consists of a 1949 chassis, a 1943 KdF engine, and a 1951 body. In the 1950s, Hans Kohlruss and his company “Edel-Käfer” were the first to customize Beetles to meet customer needs with luxury accessories such as sunroofs and special seat covers.  The refined Zeithaus model features a fabric folding roof, a two-tone black-and-gray paint job, side trim strips, and two rear vent windows.

THE Kohlruss BEETLE IN NUMBERS

The “Kohlruss Beetle” is equipped with a 1,131 cc four-cylinder boxer engine and, with its 25 kW (19 hp), reaches a top speed of 100 km/h. Between 1950 and 1955, Hans Kohlruss modified between 10 and 15 Volkswagen Beetles, depending on the source.
