Environmental and energy management

Environmental protection and energy efficiency are extremely important at the Autostadt. Our management systems for environment and energy form the basis for this. We want to avoid any negative impact on the environment and use resources as sparingly as possible.

For example, in 2013, the entire power supply was converted to natural power. This means that all the energy for lighting, interactive exhibits, and installations at the Autostadt, right up to the power for supplying the office buildings is sourced from hydropower stations. It is made available by VW Kraftwerk GmbH.

In addition, a certified energy management system was introduced. This paved the way for the increasing use of energy-efficient LED technology, which is replacing conventional lighting in a number of places. A key strategic objective was defined as an 8 % reduction in baseline energy consumption from 2022 levels by the end of 2030. Apart from that, a certified environmental management system according to DIN EN ISO 14001 was introduced in 2018.
