Environmental and energy management

As part of its environmental and energy policy, Autostadt is committed to permanently reducing its ecological footprint. As a responsible company, we want to actively contribute to solving regional and global environmental problems – not just as a goal, but as a practice we put into action.

Here we show you what that looks like in concrete terms, using current projects as examples.

Solar paving stones

A solar path with 360 solar paving stones from the company “Platio” demonstrates how clever and practical climate-friendly energy generation can be as an environmentally friendly energy source in the area of the ship landing stage on the Mittelland Canal near the KonzernForum. The paving stones that form the solar path and are already visible are made of reusable plastic. They act as collectors that convert sunlight into energy using powerful solar cells. The panels, which cover an area of 45 square meters, are resistant to stress, impact, scratches, and weather conditions.

Smartflowers

To save energy in a targeted manner and promote climate protection, we use so-called Smartflowers. These flower-shaped solar systems with photovoltaic modules serve as innovative and environmentally friendly energy sources. They are designed to follow the sun from sunrise to sunset. The “petals” ensure that maximum solar energy is captured, generating up to 40 percent more energy than conventional stationary solar systems. Under optimal conditions—such as the sunny location at Gräsermeer with little shade—a Smartflower can generate up to 6,500 kilowatt hours (kWh) of sustainable energy per year. In unfavorable weather conditions, it can retract and protect itself, ensuring the long-term functionality and safety of the system.
