Classic of the Month

from our Zeithaus Collection

We will present a classic from our Zeithaus collection regularly, which in terms of technology, design or production method served as a model for subsequent generations of vehicles in one way or another and which is also celebrating an anniversary this year.

Velvet Beetle

The special edition “Velvet Beetle” is based on the penultimate Beetle model officially imported into Germany. The Velvet Beetle gets its name from its velvety red paintwork, which stands out clearly from the more muted colors usually used for the Beetle. With blue double decorative stripes and decorative flowers on the sides, chrome hubcaps, decorative trim, and window surrounds, the Velvet Beetle is a real eye-catcher. The interior is just as striking: red and blue striped velour on the seats and Mauritius blue footwell trim underline its special charm.

THE VELVET BEETLE IN NUMBERS

The Velvet Beetle has a four-cylinder boxer engine with a displacement of 1,192 cm³ and, with its 25 kW (34 hp), reaches a top speed of 115 km/h. A total of 3,000 Velvet Beetles were built. This is one of a total of 21 official special series that were produced for the Beetle between 1971 and 1985 for the German market.
