Classic of the Month

from our Zeithaus Collection

We will present a classic from our Zeithaus collection regularly, which in terms of technology, design or production method served as a model for subsequent generations of vehicles in one way or another and which is also celebrating an anniversary this year.

SanSantana (2000)

Steering wheel of a Volkswagen Santana

The Santana notchback sedan, positioned above the Passat as Volkswagen's top model, was launched in 1982 and became a “world car.” In the 1980s, the Santana was built simultaneously on four continents, enjoying particular success in Brazil and especially in China. The Santana was particularly successful in China as a taxi or in government service, with a market share of up to 73 percent – and it shaped Volkswagen's image in China. The visually modernized 2000 model offered more space in the back seat with an extended wheelbase. The Chinese Zeithaus model has a four-cylinder in-line engine with 1,781 cm³ and reaches a top speed of 175 km/h with its 74 kW (101 hp). The original price at the time was DM 11,950.
