without sacrificing winter fun
In order to significantly reduce energy consumption, Autostadt is implementing concrete measures. The four chimneys of the Volkswagen power plant will not be illuminated this year. As in 2021, the 2,000 square metre ice rink under the Porsche pavilion will also not happen this year.
The light chains in the park landscape, which have been reduced by around ten percent, are no longer used 24 hours a day. Instead, they are switched on from dusk until the end of an event – from around 4:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Autostadt – which always uses energy-efficient technology – is also reducing the illumination of the car towers and other lighting in the park to the absolute minimum. In addition, the theme park, together with The Ritz-Carlton, Wolfsburg, has decided to decommission the hotel’s outdoor pool during the period from 1 November 2022 to 28 February 2023.
All measures contribute to reducing energy expenditure by more than 50 percent. For reference, 2019 was used as the year of comparison. This was the last year that the winter programme was not affected by coronavirus restrictions and the subsequent programme changes.
