The Ritz-Carlton, Wolfsburg - The Lobby

The lobby extends the atmosphere of the Autostadt park landscape into the hotel. A curtain of illuminated glass tubes embodies an abstract forest and serves as a visual anchor point. In the centre of the room, a large white marble fireplace divides the lobby into an intimate oasis of tranquillity. With no trace of a draughty foyer, guests feel as if they've arrived at a very special place.

A lobby is a hotel's calling card. To emphasize the direct relationship to the Autostadt park landscape, a "glass forest" visually separates the reception area from the lobby. Composed of amber-colour tubes manufactured by the Salviati glass factory in Murano, near Venice, Italy, this area serves as a focal point for guests entering the hotel and enhances the comfy atmosphere of the Lobby Lounge. A large white marble fireplace divides the space into two symmetrical areas. It’s surrounded by seating groups that offer a panoramic view of the industrial architecture and historic Volkswagen power plant. The pattern of the carpets made especially for the lobby simulates autumn leaves. At the same time, the technical-constructive aspects evoke themes of nature and mobility, without alluding directly to automobiles.

In the separate Tea Lounge adjacent to the hotel lobby, guests can enjoy traditional English afternoon tea with a selection of fine organic blends.
