Peter Zimmermann

TEXTILE WALL-ART „UNTITLED“

When you enter the Premium Clubhouse the first thing you see is Anselm Reyle’s light installation. Motifs taken from this work are echoed in Peter Zimmermann’s wall-art: using the fluorescent light tube design as his inspiration, he developed a digital template which, in collaboration with the Cologne Weberei Eiting, he transferred to fabric.

A 33 metre long wall was covered by hand-woven material consisting of six different weaving patterns. As a result the texture and relief-like surface structure changes the images back into haptic objects thereby returning to the room that which was lost in the virtual space of the digital image bank: a sense of the material. Peter Zimmermann’s textile wall art “Untitled” is a foil to the space’s placelessness and structurelessness. By using ephemeral and interchangeable digital mass-produced images as the basis of his artistic creation, he succeeds in subverting traditional ideas of painting.
