Erlkönig / Prototypes

“ERLKÖNIG/PROTOTYPES” is a voyage of discovery into the young, vital history of the Autostadt. Opened in the year 2000, its origins merely a vision, this prototype (the English translation of “Erlkönig” is prototype) today is one of the most popular and innovative forums for people to interact while attending one the many cultural activities on offer.
In addition, under the leadership of CEO, Otto Ferdinand Wachs and Creative Director, Dr. Maria Schneider (both editors of the book), the Autostadt has become a partner and co-producer for artists and creative people from all disciplines. And all these parties are responsible for the Autostadt constantly reinventing itself.
In the book, art historian, cultural journalist and author, Dr. Eva Karcher, explores the “grammar of its creativity”. “ERLKÖNIG” tells the theme park’s story in essays, interviews and offers a comprehensive section of illustrations which bring to life this laboratory which is receptive to diverse inspiration. Nineteen interviews with the founders and their prominent partners from all creative disciplines – including the artist Olafur Eliasson and Anselm Reyle, three-star Michelin chef Sven Elverfeld, the architects Gunter Henn and Jürgen Mayer H., the choreographer and Movimentos award winner (2009) Wayne McGregor, the French interior designer Andrée Putman and the philosopher Peter Sloterdijk – round out the experiential planet Autostadt’s multi-facetted profile.
The book’s protagonists were photographed both perceptively as well as glamorously by the well-known Munich photographer Elias Hassos. The renowned photographer Peter Neusser, who also lives in Munich, took the spectacular images which show the Autostadt as idyllic park and futuristic creative landscape.
