Movimentos Festival Weeks 2012

From the 10th of April to the 20th of May 2012 the Autostadt in Wolfsburg will host the Movimentos Festival for the tenth time. For six weeks the festival, which features 65 performances at twelve different venues, will move the entire region. The aim of the Festival Weeks has always been to prove a reliable partner to the arts and to provide a platform on which young artists can perform. 2012 will be no exception: once again international dance ensembles will present European- and German premieres at the KraftWerk, and jazz- and classical concerts, as well as dramatised readings, will bring eminent artists to Wolfsburg. To open the 10th Festival Weeks 40 young dancers of the Movimentos Akademie (Academy) will perform Grimm’s fairytale “The Drummer” at the Theater Wolfsburg.
How does information turn to knowledge? How is an appropriate reality created? What divides information from knowledge? These are the central questions explored at Movimentos – The Autostadt Festival Weeks in this, its 10th anniversary year under the heading of “Wisdom, knowledge, information”. “Only single-minded interest will lead to understanding and the ability to organize information, separate what is important from what is not, what is true from what is false, what is good from what is bad. To commit to that demands effort, standards and values. Yet it appears that it is exactly this which is being lost in the information explosion”, says Bernd Kauffmann together with Dr. Maria Schneider, Artistic Director of the Movimentos Festival Weeks. “However the sober rigour of knowledge can never hope to understand or experience the equanimity of wisdom. In its very special luminous moments it remains for art, dance, music and literature to show the way to wisdom”, says Dr Maria Schneider, the Autostadt’s Creative Director.
This year the Movimentos Akademie (Academy) offers young artists new platforms: based on the model of an arts college, the workshop programme lasts an entire year in which there is ongoing artistic exploration in disciplines such as set design, music, costume- and fashion design, acting, dramaturgy and make-up. In addition during the Festival Weeks there are various dance- and yoga workshops for adults. How creative these platforms have been will be evident at the big opening of the Movimentos Festival Weeks 2012: this year’s Movimentos Akademie (Academy) dance class has adapted Grimm’s fairy tale “The Drummer” for their production. The presentation about artfully introduced misinformation and cunningly implemented knowledge opens the Festival on the 10th of April in the Theater Wolfsburg. It will then relocate to the Staatstheater Braunschweig.
